      PAKITO BOLINO is a silk∼screen designer, colourist, comic strip & guitarist noise maker… Since decades the dirty, ugly & nasty buddy scratched hard his guitar on the screeching & sharp bands a.k.a. → Plaies Mobiles, La Machoire, Mug, Maître Chien, among others… Hes also the co∼founder of Le Dernier Crian apocryphal collective of non∼standard multi∼form visual arghtists who evolve at the antipodes of conventional narration and illustration, by unceremoniously exploring the field of the wild image ; Crawling in a perverse universe often destabilizing, even disturbing…

The line of Pakito Bolino is raw, obsessive and instinctive. Geo∼graphically speaking, after Angoulême, Bordeaux & Paris, he is now based in Marseille (france) since 1993…

WITCHES VALLEY *

Witches Valley

      WITCHES VALLEY was a french spectacular band from the past which rages wildly between 1986 & 1992 → Rolling stones between folk, western, «psychedelic» surf and anthracite mauve blue garage ← Sensual & torrid dating melting H.P. Lovecraft, Lux Interior, Ennio Morricone, Dick Dale, Jeffrey Lee Pierce, Flipper, Butthole Surfers, Dalton Trumbo, Divine, Kirk Douglas, B.B. & Link Wray in the wind of the plains of unpatented aromatic herbs → Something went wrong in the Wonderful Western land  !!!

Escaped from the magical world of Hollywood westerns & fantasy movies, WITCHES VALLEY had more to do with the skinned & uprooted characters that americana cinema has provided us with since the pre∼war period than with the heroines of comic books. Already, when the combo begun in 86, he presented all the symptoms of the defect. Thier debut single, copiously edited in 1989 via the label GO GET ORGANIZED and cleverly titled «And This Way Red Neck, Do You Like It ?» { Recently reedited (with one bonus from their unique album) & remasterised within our second boxset Dont Worry Be Angrry That you can listen on the player above }, make discover a garage band both rigorous & anguished. But that was after having lapped his repertoire by opening for groups such as the Hard∼Ons, NoMeansNo  or False Prophets (…), its  on stage that Witches Valley found its deep true dimension, allying country, hardcore, psyche & noisy∼pop  to its deliberately paradoxical game, still hesitating between naive ballad & distorted savagery. In live∼act, they created a climate of biting bestiality with a lot of fuzz guitar & bass feedback mixing oppressive atmosphere & beauty. Their tribal identity was visually expressed through the erotic ambiguity of their singer, reminding early crazy Elvis  and inevitably The Cramps ; A violence that was not altered, but rather powered by convoluted structures where unexpected breaks transformed a song into four or five highlights…

 Evolving in a hubbub that is both intellectual & spontaneous, they were a kind of Lucky Luke  revisiting Paul Morissey & Russ MeyerWe found there the same attraction for the disgust and the futile. The culmination of this perilous cruise was a debut album called «Extreme Return To The Source» { out in 1990 on AUTO DA FÉ Recordswhich traced, against the backdrop of an almost Hollywood  musical fresco, the unstoppable insanity of an adventure populated by murders & ancestral legends → The voices were colorful and the hues were multiple, from honeyed to howled, supported by female choirs of innoncent & perverse go go girls → An omnipresent organ —or discreet according to the titles— reinforced the hallucinogenic character inseparable from the screeching à la Sonic Youth  & candor à la Pixies → All supported by a battery either hardcore, than sixties ← Bringing together these two genres and closing the loop > > from the sixties to the nineties, isnt there just a six to return ? Combining emotion & irritation in their image as in their music, Witches Valley was both painful & pleasant → Something was wrong with this bunch of unhealthy yéyés, with these femme fatales cheerleaders lost in this music and these slobbering voices…

Definitivly, something goes wrong & thats smell good.

      Attention ! One of my latest & greatest thrills arrives from indonesia in the form of a full∼fire full∼flame fourtet ← Drawing its hyper∼energy in the savagery of the «japanoïse» from 90s > > > Ruins, Melt-Banana & Boredoms  in the first line, ZOO does not forget the deterioration of its own local musical roots, cheerfully diverting traditional percussions & others kecak  { choir of vocal percussions originally accompanying trances during balinese rituals }…

Guided by the bestial & jovial Rully Shabara, also voice of Senyawa, the combo∼scenario —created in 2005— practices a növö∼hardcore, total, tribal, fractal, monumental on the verge of apoplexy. In the fondations of ZOO articulate the workers∼wizards of the sounds : Bhakti Prasetyo → bass + Dimas Budi Satya ← percussions + Ramberto Agozalie → drums.

Since 2012, with «Prasasti», the group has resolutely affirmed its history and its political, mystical and philosophical hopes ← So takes the time to dig deeper the Khawagaka

The ZOO closes its doors in 2025 (as planned from the beginning) >>> Then opens the WUSA window…

Tear Of A Doll

      TEAR OF A DOLL, formerly «Tears Of A Doll» { also under the diminutive TOAD }, was a band from Paris (france) which began within «punk∼hardcore» movement to then mix the speed & energy of this style with more complex structures inherited from the experiences of the 70s «progressive∼rock», of «noise∼rock» or 90s «math∼rock» even non∼western traditional musics… TEAR OF A DOLL also features she∼male voice sung in different languages ​​{ mainly english, but also japanese, german, french and hungarian }…

TOAD begun in 1988, as a logical follow∼up to Heimat-los —french «punk∼hardcore» precursor in 1983— with three of its members —accompanied by François Truillet, also on bass later with Copywrong— as the basis of this new sonic adventure. Originally, they spelled their name with a «s». This name was chosen as a funny opposition of the typical «punk∼hardcore» band names of the time, and also in reference to a new trend that had originated in Washington∼DC and would later be called «emo», initiate around bands like Rites Of Spring, Gray Matter, Fugazi

1992 → …After losing their original singer —Norbert  ex. Heimat-los— and their second guitarist —Nydeu  ex. Kromozom 4— as well as the arrival of a new drummer —Orkhan Murat, the third one—, Tear Of A Doll took the opportunity to radically change their sound. From then on, they created a new repertoire developing obvious influences among others of Victims Family  & NoMeansNo  but with definitivly a personal touch (french touch, ah ah). Astrid Orion (voice) joined the band at this period. The most representative recording of this line∼up is the eponymous album recorded in 1996. From fall 96, the guitarist & fonding member François LHomer spend more time expatriate in asia than in france. Since then, the group is almost inactive, playing only at french festival Trans Musicales (1997) and occasionally publishing a few chansongs on compilations…

Stanley Kubi

      Friends of poetry, here comes STANLEY KUBI. Lets stay clear & lucid for a moment : These were just a bass, a mandolin, a guitar, a drumset, an «épinette des Vosges», a dulcimer, a trombone, a piano and a microphone… Good. It all started with a well∼watered aperitif full of red∼blood wine, fine. A few cubis  later, the revelation swims at the bottom of the throat : Stanley Kubrick  is dead, viva STANLEY KUBI ! The rest of the story, you know it, everyone knows it, no kidding ?

 Deconstruction of the imagination. Drunkness of the drunkness. Complexity of the simplicity. Hardcore folklore. Dementia wandering. Smile before death. Everything is said in the little sentence on the back of their first & last album «Music By» : «Irregular rhythm which portrays confusion and terror. Mess. Rhythm altered on purpose to make it more expressive» → In few words we could say : Harmony, elegance & good taste.
