Albert Marcœur

ALBERT MARCŒUR is an unclassifiable french musician and singer, born December 12, 1947 in Dijon. Passionate about melodic, rhythmic and sound experiments, he is nonetheless an author of texts that are at the same time light, funny and offbeat. His experimental, proven musician & entertainer sides earned him for a time the name of «french Frank Zappa» and to be sometimes compared to the brazilian Tom Zé

During part of his eight years of clarinet studies at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Dijon, Albert Marcœur played in local «rock» groups at school and then with the Jazz Babies  and then the Lakes Men, with which he forges an experience of the stage…

Then he left in 1970 for Le Fidelaire in the north∼west of france, where he was a musician attached to the Frémontel studio. With his formation { KAPAKPatrice Tison  on electric guitar, Pascal Arroyo  on bass and François Bréant  on keyboards who will become Bernard Lavilliers regular musicians } he learns the use of multi∼track, improvises and composes when the studio is left vacant by the parisian musicians who come to record there…

The first album «Albert Marcœur» was released in 1974, and a group formed for the regular tours that followed, in which Albert  brothers, Claude  & Gérard  participated in particular, as well as François Ovide  on guitar and Pierre Vermeire —survivor of the Lakes Men— on clarinet and saxophone. In parallel with the creation of his second opus «Album À Colorier» he created in 1975 and 1976 the arrangements of two albums for dutch arghtist Dick Annegarn, «Mireille» and «Anticyclone» —for which he is also musical director—. During the next two years, with his brothers he accompanied Dick Annegarn  on tour and they even shared the Olympia at Paris (france) show in October 75…

It is difficult to assess whether it is ALBERT MARCŒUR who is discreet in the media by choice or if it is the media that show his work very little, but overall we read or hear his name quite rarely on the radio or in the music press. Yet he never stopped publishing albums of his sound creations every four or five years ; What is a great regularity of production for a musician so fond of non∼conformism…

In 2013 & 2014 he toured french∼speaking countries with his show «If so, yes. Otherwise no.» produced in collaboration with Quatuor Béla, which made the digital recording in 2017…

In 2014 he signed the book «But Mr. Marcœur, how is it that you did not come to see us earlier ?!» with the swiss dada duo Plonk & Replonk, now adding writing to the extended panel of his arghtivities
